Sul Sul!
Jess is shipwrecked and single...
Jess wakes up one morning on an island.
On the horizon, out on the sea, she can still see the remains of the "Queen Solomon",
the cruiser ship with which she wanted to go to that Single Club.
Well, now she is all alone here...
Jess knows she has to make her survival here, but how?
Luckily she finds a hatchet in the sand.
And then, even this trunk that seemed to have come from the ship.
Jess sets up camp, and goes to collect coconuts. She's parched!
Then she puts that hatchet to use.
A bush, a coconut tree, some leaves, a fireplace, a trunk and a lot of sand.
What more could you possibly need for survival?
Come on baby light my fire!
When the night falls, Jess has managed to put together a shelter.
At night while she sleeps and it rains, orang-utans raid her camp.
Jess wakes with the camp all messy.
But she digs a hole and burns the trash.
After refreshing herself in the ocean, Jess finds that she needs more in her stomach than just coconuts. She goes to spear a fish. She spends a long time trying (and talking to herself), but she finally succeeds in catching one.
She even seems to like poached codfish.
On the shore, Jess finds some debris that with some logs she could make into a float.
Unluckily, she has nothing to hold it together.
Combing the beach in case something else washed up from the seaside,
Jess finds a machete.
Ouch!
She first shaves her legs, then she cuts some bamboo and works her way further into the jungle.
What she finds is unsettling: the wrecked plane looks older than she is.
Looking in the cockpit, she finds a map. Seems the island is bigger than she first expected.
She sets out to explore.
She finds orang-utans hanging around a tree, and at its base, a funny statue.
That would make a great decoration for her shelter.
But the orang-utans seem to like their stuff. One of them attacks her and beats her up.
Bananas make for a good peace offer.
Jess takes the statue home.
Something snaps in her mind. It must be she's been alone for too long.
She starts talking with the statue, who she noticed misses one of his jewels,
sees him as her only friend on the island and even gives him a name.
Then in her made-up conversation, the statue asks her for her job
- and she has to admit she is out of a job right now.
But she decides to change that immediately.
Job offers are scarce in the middle of nowhere,
but she doesn't want to hunt, and she's not very skilled in mechanics either,
so she just decides to be a Gatherer.
Freshening up in the great outdoors "bathroom".
Exhausted, she goes to sleep, but gets a visit from the orang-utan she called Waiata.
Out of boredom and loneliness, Jess plays a bit with her.
Waiata seems nice.
Jess wonders if she could adopt her?
Early morning, the decision is clear.
Waiata will be a part of the family now.
Returning from the jungle from gathering, Jess notices that from now on, she could send Waiata to hunt or gather for her. That is a good idea!
So Jess can concentrate on building that float to get away from here.
She returns to the wreckage site to search for something to hold the float together.
She does find something, but it's not a rope.
It's a gem! Jess wonders if...
Yes! It is the statue's missing jewel.
But suddenly...
... the statue releases a sort of steam that makes Jess gag hard.
All of sudden she is not feeling well at all...
... like she will die here if she doesn't find a remedy soon!
While Jess is desperately searching for a cure, a lightning strikes into a tree nearby.
That must be a sign!
Jess goes into that direction and further into the jungle.
What will she find?
Oh my! A cabin!
Someone used to live here!
Jess wonders briefly where they are now.
But not for long, because she has found a medicine case on the veranda.
She opens it to find a bottle with a strong smelling liquid.
Should she dare?
But there is no time to lose.
She feels miserable.
She is willing to take the risk.
She gulps down the bottle.
And passes out.
Will this be the end of our heroine?
No.
After a long sleep, Jess wakes and feels healthy again!
And wow - in the cabin there is some rope!
Now she can tie the logs on her float.
Still missing something to steer it, though.
As the cabin seems long abandoned, Jess decides to move to the Shady Lagoon.
The lagoon is a wonderful place full of resources.
And, thanks to the person who used to live there,
Jess even has a water tank.
Jess refreshes in the lake under the waterfall, wondering if she could hollow out a tree to make a bathtub.
Then she settles to sleep.
She has decorated the cabin with a "mirror" made from a reflecting foil she found somewhere,
and a dreamcatcher from some feathers she found.
The cabin looks cozy, and the bed comfortable.
